Create you own political block party

Published by under Politics

OK, so now you can find everyone in your neighborhood who’s contributed to a campaign via fundrace.org, and invite them all to watch election returns on Tuesday night.

A musical friendster?

Published by under Monkeying Around

I’ve been fascinated with the growing plethora of social networking web sites. Now, here comes last.fm to let you find friends (or “neighbors”) based on musical tastes, and comes with a download to automatically update their site with what you are currently listening to — a little piece of software that monitors iTunes or WinAmp or whatever. The site is really slow, but I love this concept. I feel like I’m with my people. Trouble is, only those who are music fanatics are going to create an account and keep it going and up to date. And let’s face it, we’re all music snobs — we all think our taste in music is better than the woman down the hall.

About damn time

“jesus h christ!”, I hear the collective scream. “Haven’t you jumped on that bandwagon yet?” Well, finally, the ever-ranting critic is foisting his words and works upon the world. About damn time.

I’m a founder of Ciceron, a web marketing firm in Minnapolis, and have been doing this web design and marketing gig for 10 years now. I’m changing my role here, moving from a creative director to more of a marketing consultant and leader within Ciceron. It’s a big change of focus for me, and I’m really looking forward to how it will unfold. I’m excited to feel challenged by work again, but I’m worried that I’ll miss the simple pleasures of opening up Photoshop and whipping out a site design. One of the reasons I’m starting this blog now is to help me direct my thinking about this fundamental change in my work life — and this site will also serve a sort of playground for me to try out new ideas and new approaches in web marketing.

I’m 35 years old, and as my buddy Mark mentioned, my life is half over — statistically speaking, the average U.S. male lives to 70. Better get started living, eh?.

Bought my first house last summer, so I finally feel like I’m getting my shit together. But I’m still single and not dating right now, and you know what – I’m lovin’ it. I having a blast driving my new Mini Cooper (yes, the “S”) — well, not so new anymore — got it back in December. I love going to see live music and see movies and shows, all on my own time and my own schedule. Maybe that makes me self-centered, but I like to call it introverted and happy.

I’m a geek through and through, a big Mac fan, and I’ve often got a cruel political bone to pick. What the hell am I? Bloated plutocrat and the first against the wall when the revolution comes, or lefty pinko communist? Maybe you can help me figure it out.

Well, happy surfing. I hope to post often.
